Run over by tractor & sickle mower -- multiple injuries

BC (aka Broken Cat) was run over by a tractor & sickle mower on August 30, 2011 in Elk Run Heights/Evansdale, IA resulting in a fractured right pelvis, multiple lacerations,  & several other fractures (See below for full story).  BC has completed his recovery and is now ready for adoption.
Due to the nature of his injuries, BC will have a life-long limp, cannot jump as high as other cats, and cannot be declawed (he needs them to pull himself up where he can't push with his hind legs).  He still has some tender spots along his back side and is a bit sensitive to being touched near his rear-end (resulting in nipping at unsuspecting fingers), but he absolutely loves shoulder rubs and having his face & neck scratched.  He can often be found curling up in someone's lap, stretched up a chest begging for neck rubs & scratches, head-butting or nuzzling chins for more cuddles & kisses, or following someone around the house asking for attention. BC will suck up any loving he can get... He's a Happy Cat!

Although he has limitations he gets around great, is active and playful with the other cats, is healthy, and very friendly!  What a BIG, sweet baby!  We're thrilled to know he now has the opportunity to share his love with a family of his own someday.  Will that family be you?  Apply today!

BC'S STORY:  BC was rescued by a local resident, concerned about his well-being called the local animal control then called TigeraCat.  While our volunteer was on the phone with the resident, an Evansdale ACO arrived at the scene and we overheard him tell the her he would take the cat out "to the woods and shoot it" because the city doesn't pay him enough to pay for the gas to take the cat to the humane society to be humanely euthanized.

We immediately responded and took the injured cat to a veterinarian in Cedar Falls, IA where he was evaluated and consultations with a board certified small animal surgeon revealed the best course of treatment for his injuries would require specialized surgery, treatments, and eventually physical therapy.  Estimated cost $2000 to $5000.

Thanks to the loving support of our FaceBook Friends & supporters, enough funds were raised to get BC the veterinary care he needed.  BC remained hospitalized at the veterinarian's office until his injuries could be stablized.  He then received on-going nursing care and veterinary oversight for 8 weeks so his injuries could heal with minimal disturbance to the fractures.  He was then re-evaluated and received surgery on his right rear leg to repair torn ligaments & tissue. THANK YOU DR. REIMER & DR. STEVENSON!  After several weeks in a cast and another 6 weeks of physical therapy, he's off and running with the other household pets and giving them all a run for their money!  He is doing GREAT!  What a little lover he's become now that his pain has been relieved.

Fund-raising for BC is still active.  Donations are greatly appreciated and help us continue our life-saving services. Donations can be sent via the following:

Potential adopters need to keep BC's possible medical costs in mind before applying to adopt.  He already shows signs of arthritis (at only 1 year of age) and will likely need ongoing veterinary care to maintain his quality of life.  Pet insurance is highly recommended to help manage veterinary costs.

TigeraCat Rescues considers the health & care of animals a top priority and provides top-quality veterinary care prior to listing for adoption.  All animals come with a pre-registered 24PetWatch Microchip ID, & a 30-day gift of ShelterCare Pet Insurance upon adoption.

Breed Disclosure: Due to the fact that most of our adoptable pets are strays, we cannot guarantee their breed. We list the pet’s breed as the one that best matches the physical appearance, temperament, and personality of the animal. The pet may also be listed as a mix when it’s actually a purebred.

More about BC "Broken Cat"

Is Not Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Somewhat vocal

Special Needs: Due to his initial injuries, BC can not be declawed (he needs them to compensate for the lack of force in his back legs). He can jump, but not as high as most cats. As he ages, BC is more likely to develop arthritis and may need accommodations for this. His new owners will need to keep this in mind.
