TigeraCat Rescues
STOP THE KILLING OF HEALTHY CATS & KITTENS!

Cat - TCR-Hobo,Sally,Dan-03(web).jpg

Traditional sheltering practices allow the mass killing of sheltered animals ... Every year animal shelters in Iowa are killing thousands of healthy and treatable animals that could be placed in homes and thousands of feral cats that do not belong in animal shelters.

Unfortunately over 70% of cats entering animal shelters are killed by people who believe there is no other way.  Over 80% of Americans believe that leaving a stray cat outside to live out its life is more humane than having the cat caught and killed, (U.S. Public Opinion on Humane Treatment of Stray Cats, Alley Cat Allies, Inc., 2007).  Even in the hands of rescue workers, thousands of beautiful, undeserving cats are "humanely euthanized" every day!  Humane Societies and Animal Control Agencies, nationwide (including Cedar Bend Humane Society, here in Waterloo, IA) are being forced to euthanize (KILL) the adoptable & non-adoptable animals they diligently work to protect!  Many in our society have become discouraged by this practice & have turned away from these organizations because of the overwhelming kill rate.

Our community has long been concerned, frustrated, and discouraged by our current animal control, shelter/humane society system.  It's time to stand up, be heard, and make a change!  Join us today, to make that change!

TigeraCat Rescues is NOT a traditional shelter, and is working with you to Stop The Killing!

The Cedar Valley is in desperate need and TigeraCat Rescues is working to meet that need... with your help.

About Us

History:   TigeraCat Rescues is a small group of normal people with a deep respect for the world we live in and an even deeper love of the creatures we share it with. TigeraCat Rescues formed in October 1997 to provide No-Kill alternatives to cat-lovers, shelters, rescuers, & community members in an effort to decrease the number of animals being surrendered to and euthanized by the humane society and animal control.  We do this by offering education, support, solutions, and other services not provided by our local humane society.  TigeraCat Rescues expanded and went public in October 2007, and continues to succeed with the gracious & generous help of people JUST LIKE YOU, around the state, nation, & world!

Mission: To promote and encourage the humane treatment, health, and welfare of animals and to educate the public concerning the care, treatment, and welfare of animals with emphasis in felines.

Staff: TigeraCat Rescues does not have a paid Staff.  All board members, administrators, & staff are VOLUNTEERS.

Funding: TigeraCat Rescues is funded strictly through private & public donations.  It does not receive any government grants or funding.  Your support and donations are what makes saving lives possible, and since it is operated strictly by an all-volunteer staff, 100% of your donation support goes directly towards saving the animals!

Shelter/Facility: TigeraCat does not yet have a sheltering facility.  Until that happens, all animals must remain with their owners or rescuers or, when available, placed with temporary caregivers until adopted.  We are currently accepting donations to establish a sheltering/adoption facility.  If you'd like to see a no-kill shelter in Black Hawk County, Donate Today to our Shelter Fund!  Even pennies help!

Legal Information: Citizens have a right to have their government spend their tax dollars not on programs and services that kill animals but on those that save and enhance the lives of animals and protect animals from cruelty -- Citizens have the right to full and complete disclosure about how animal shelters & other animal welfare organizations operate.  Here at TigeraCat Rescues we want you to be fully informed about what you are suppporting.  Therefore we provide our adoption #s, euthanasia rates, live-release rates, etc. and annual financial summaries upon request.  We hope to have it all available online, very soon.  In the meantime, just send us an email, and we'll be happy to send it to you!
