Adoption Fee Policy

ADOPTION FEES: Once the application has been processed & approved, the adopter will complete the Contract and pay any applicable adoption fee. Average adoption fee is $100 per animal, but may vary depending on each animal’s needs & other factors. TigeraCat Rescues does not profit from Adoption Fees. Adoption fees are used to recover costs spent in rescuing the animals from certain death, providing health care, and preparing them for adoption.
SPECIAL ADOPTION PROGRAMS:
Senior-to-Senior: Any person age 55 or older that adopts a rescued cat aged 7 years or older, may opt to have their adoption fee waived. Donations are always welcome & accepted to help us continue to offer our services to older cats in need. Click here for more info.
Spay/Neuter Rebate: Any animal adopted prior to being spayed or neutered must have this completed within 30-days of adoption (or as soon as the animals age/health allows). Adopter may opt to participate in our Rebate offer by having the surgery completed within the required time and submitting a Spay Certificate signed by the veterinarian & a copy of the statement showing the price paid. A check will be issued for up to 50% of the adoption fee (not to exceed the cost of the spay/neuter) to help cover the cost of this requirement. Click here for more info.
Special Needs Discount: Any “Special Needs” animal adopted may have its adoption fee discounted or waived, upon request. Speak to your adoption representative for details.
No deposit is required to adopt an animal from TigeraCat Rescues. If an adopter is interested in a particular animal, he/she may submit a non-refundable $25 deposit to hold the animal, pending application outcome. The animal will then be placed on hold and no new application will be considered until the outcome of the existing application is determined. If application is approved the deposit will be applied towards the adoption fee. If the application is denied, the deposit will be converted to a tax-deductible donation. Deposit is animal-specific and may not be placed towards the adoption of a different animal.
TigeraCat Rescues will not transfer an animal showing signs of illness or disease without prior veterinary approval. Animals currently on hold due to medical reasons can still be adopted, but must wait to go home until their vet says it’s okay. If you wish to adopt an animal currently being held for medical reasons, you have the following options:

All animals being adopted through TigeraCat Rescues are required to have the following at time of adoption or within 30 days of adoption (age & health allowing):
Some animals may still need one or more of the above requirements at time of adoption…as in kittens less than 15 weeks of age or some “Special Needs” cats. Needs are determined on a case-by-case basis, for the health of the animal.
If the animal is in need of any of the above at time of adoption, the adopter has 2 options:
1. Wait to take the animal home until these requirements are met.
2. or the adopter may opt to have his/her veterinarian complete the missing requirements, at their own expense, and submit written proof from the attending vet to TigeraCat Rescues.
FELV/FIV STATUS:
TigeraCat Rescues requires Felv/FIV testing of all incoming animals (excluding TNR cats*). TCR encourages disease control. Therefore, Felv/FIV disease status is required for any animal being placed for adoption through any TCR adoption programs. If Felv/FIV status is unknown and the animal will have contact with another cat, Felv/FIV status must be determined prior to placement. TCR will have the Felv/FIV test completed for all animals with unknown status for a non-refundable $25 to be paid by adopter or surrendering party.
*TigeraCat Rescues does not routinely test cats participating in our Trap-Neuter-Return program. However, to prevent spreading disease, Felv/FIV status must be determined for any feral/barn/outdoor cat being re-located/moved from its current home/location. If a positive result is obtained, the animal cannot be re-located/moved to a new location, must be spayed/neutered, and will be returned to its original location. TigeraCat Rescues does not euthanize for positive Felv/FIV status.
